DS-Alert System: Regional growth index maps and trap data for detection of established fruit flies (Ceratitis capitata)
DS-Alert System: Regional growth index maps and trap data for detection of established fruit flies (Ceratitis capitata)
Description
An area-wide early-alert system that combines trap catch data and climate suitability maps and graphs. This system allows fruit fly pest managers to see the “big picture” – the spatial and climate suitability context, with some insight into future conditions
Background
To assist in managing fruit flies already present in Europe, we created a web map that combines the location of traps with climate suitability patterns for Ceratitis capitata throughout the world.
The graphs presented at each of the trap locations show the weekly Growth Index (GIw) for this fruit fly species, based on 10-year climatology. During periods where the GIw is zero, no growth of the species is possible. However, the higher the GIw, the more rapid the population growth will be, and the greater the damage caused by C. capitata.
The numbers at each trap location indicate the number of fruit flies caught at that location. The trap catches are updated weekly, providing a rapid visual assessment of fruit fly activity, which can be used to guide management strategies.
This system therefore alerts users as to exactly when and where fruit flies are becoming active and need to be managed.
IFRAME:
• GIw layer for Ceratitis capitata (established FF),GIw layer for B. dorsalis and GIw for C. capitata in Israel.
• trap locations layer will be the same as in Tool 6, but report the presence of C. capitata in Europe, B. dorsalis in South Africa and C. capitata in Israel.
Pricing
Until 30 June 2024, this system will be provided free of charge. After that time, it will become available on a subscription basis as part of an early-alert trapping system. Please contact us here to arrange a teleconference to discuss your needs.
